5.2 The steps of program creation

There are many steps to creating a program. An effective program is not just magically conceived. There is a structured thought out method. This unit is designed to enable you to be able to design your own programs or at least understand what processes that your coach will go through when creating yours.

Programs are created with a bottom up method.

First goals are set.

Exercises are selected that help an athlete towards these goals.

A weeks worth of days is put together with the effects of successive days considered.

A series of weeks is put together to create a month to 6 weeks of training. This is a training phase.

Then an entire training cycle is created spanning over 3 months. Within this cycle various phases will be put together. After this cycle, it is planned that an athlete will have achieved the goals set.
